Tips and advices to preserve the beauty of your moccasins and boots

Keep all your suede and leather items from any direct heat source (heating, fireplace)

Always apply the same treatment to both shoes

Leather is a living material that does not endure abrasive nor caustic products

Let your footwear breathe between wears. Leather is a natural material that has a tendency to absorb sweat and moisture. For example, alternate their use and let them dry entirely.

Clean them thoroughly before storing them for the season. Otherwise stains could become embedded and be difficult to remove.

Store your footwear in a breathable material like, for example a fabric bag. Plastic and cardboard should not be used because they do not allow air to circulate.

CLEAN AND CONDITION SMOOTH LEATHER

1 Remove the laces from your moccasins or boots. Let dry thoroughly. Use a soft brush to remove any dust and dirt.

2 To remove stains, gently rub them in a circular motion with a slightly humid cloth with a drop of soft soap (dishwashing liquid). Rinse with a clean cloth. Let your footwear air dry totally before applying anything onto the leather (overnight if possible).

3 You can use a good quality shoe polish and conditioner, or mink oil product. It is very important to keep leathers hydrated. Use a soft cloth and help the product penetrate by making small circulate movements. Normally a good shine protects your leathers for a week.

4 Waterproofing: we advise against waterproofing products because they may contain chemicals that damage leather and prevents it from breathing.

5 In winter, remove any mud, snow and dirt from your footwear as soon as possible and keep them away from any heat source. Salt may leave a white residue on your shoes. Clean the white spots with a damp cloth before salt gets embedded. Let them air dry before treating them again with shoe polish before you wear them again.

CLEAN AND CONDITION SUEDE

Contrary to smooth leather, suede is made from the inside of the hide, lightly sanded

1 Remove the laces from your moccasins or boots. Use a soft brush to eliminate any dust and dirt

2 To remove stains, gently wipe them in a circular motion with a slightly humid cloth with a drop of soft soap (hand dishwashing liquid). Rinse with a clean damp cloth. If needed, use a crepe brush for suede, suede eraser block or a plain eraser. Let your footwear air dry thoroughly before re-applying any type of protector

3 Certain greasier stains can be removed by sprinkling talc, baking soda or powdered chalk that will absorb grease. Let sit for a few hours then brush with a suede brush.

4 We recommend a good quality suede conditioner, but we advise against waterproofing products because they may contain chemicals that damage suede and prevents it from breathing.

5 In winter, remove any mud, snow and dirt from your footwear as soon as possible and keep them away from any heat source. Let them air dry before treating them again with conditioner before you wear them again.

CLEAN AND CONDITION SHEEPSKIN

The inside of a sheepskin hide is also a type of suede

If your slippers or boots are made from reversed sheepskin, you must treat them with as much care as you would for all your other leathers. Please refer to the section «Clean and condition suede»

CLEAN RABBIT FUR

The fur we use is natural

It is not treated with any chemical component. Be mindful not to use any artificial product on it, be it in spray or any other form, because it may be the best way to destroy fur’s integrity.

Never rub it.

Never put too much water to clean it.

1 In order to eliminate any trace of dust and dirt, simply shake it or tap it against your hand.

2 To remove stains, delicately wipe it with a soft clean cloth or sponge moistened with a little bit of water and a drop of gentle shampoo. Rinse the cloth or sponge with cold water and remove the excess soap. Let dry thoroughly then shake or use a hair dryer on "cold״or ״warm״ setting, never hot

3 If the fur is wet, shake the excess water or let it dry naturally, away from any heat source. Then shake to fluff it up

4 It is typical that fur loses a few hairs with time. We strongly recommend avoiding the rubbing of your pants on the fur or rubbing your feet against each other in order to prolong its life span.

CLEAN THE LINING

- To remove dust and dirt from the inside of your moccasins, vacuum using the upholstery tip of your vacuum cleaner.

- If needed, clean with water with a damp cloth, with a drop of soft soap (hand dishwashing liquid) if necessary, wiping gently in a rounded movement. Rinse cloth with cold water and wipe excess soap then let your items dry out completely.

- For greasy or oily stains, generously sprinkle baking soda on the soiled spots inside your footwear.

- Let sit for several hours then shake the excess powder.

The main sources of bad odors in shoes are sweat and body oils

Humidity and warmth result in the overgrowing of bacteria and bad odors.

It is very important to let your footwear well air between wears.

- Baking soda possesses the property of absorbing odors in a damp environment. Sprinkle the interior of your footwear and let sit overnight. Shake well.

- Another suggestion would be to put some orange or lemon peels inside your items and let them take effect overnight: it is a natural solution well known to remove odors.

-The sun’s UV rays have a bad reputation; however, their best quality is not only to naturally drain moisture, but also to destroy bacteria therefore sterilise. Expose your moccasins to direct sunlight as often as possible.

- If your moccasins or boots are lined, and if none of these methods works, use a clean cloth dampened with white vinegar and carefully dab the whole liner of your footwear. The fungicide and anti-bacterial properties of white vinegar are well known. Let dry thoroughly.
